‘Hiya Nan ‘ Hannah said has she hugged her ‘gotta cup of tea for me’ she laughed.
‘I can do better than that , I’ve just opened a bottle of wine ,come in , I want you to meet someone’.
The door opened and so did Hannah’s mouth .
‘This is Paul ,’ said Nan . ‘He’s your brother.’
Suddenly everything went black and the floor seemed to jump up and meet Hannah. It seemed like ages later when she opened her eyes and she didn’t want to see what she saw. A worried looking face with curly dark hair was leaning over her . ‘Are you all right ? It seems I’m always knocking you over . Please take it slowly and have a few sips of this ’
She looked down at the glass of water as if she’d never seen one before.
‘What did you say ?’
‘I said …’
‘No, not you , Nan?’
‘Well lovey I knew you’d be surprised but didn’t quite expect this reaction. Paul is my son , but I had him adopted as a child because I couldn’t give him all I wanted to. He found me though and convinced me to meet him. We have been writing for a while and I invited him over to talk. Let me make some tea and I’ll tell you all about it’
‘No way is tea enough , I need some of that wine you promised after this ‘ Hannah said ,getting up off the floor with Paul’s help.
Sitting at the table with a glass , hardly touched, in her hand about half an hour later, Hannah didn’t know what to think.
‘Are you all right’ asked Nan.
‘No , I don’t think I am. Poor mum , you where her best friend , how could you do that to her ?’
‘None of it was done on purpose lovey, we where all young and thoughtless then. When I found out I was pregnant I was worried sick , it wasn’t the done thing in those days to have a baby out of marriage. Your mum was my best friend , there was nobody else I could talk to.’
‘So she knew about you and dad ?’
‘No , not then but she guessed later , that was when she told him to leave’
‘And you two stayed friends ?’
‘At first she wouldn’t speak to me , but after Paul had been adopted and I’d come back , we gradually fell back into friendship and she let me share you and Graham. I think she pitied me really. She’s a strong woman your mother you’re a lot like she was when she was younger’
Hannah mulled everything over , suddenly Paul spoke - she’d forgotten he was there ‘so you see it was a very special lady I was visiting , and now I’ve met another special lady’
As she looked at him , she wondered why she hadn’t realised straight away , he was like looking in a mirror . All be it a more masculine mirror !
As she sipped her wine , she thought back to the antique shop and the little jug - no, you never new what you where going to find in a trunk ……..

Maybe it's a good thing you don't know what you are going to find in a trunk. Very nice.
What a surprise!
...he was like looking in a mirror . All be it a more masculine mirror" Loved this bit! Well done.
You are so right. Never know what you will find in a trunk or an old photo album. Great writing.

Sooooo glad you finished it! And rounded it off very well. I honestly didn't see that one coming!
Now that was very different! I should say she needed a glass of wine! Maybe 2-3! Good last sentence!
